Dear Friend

In December 2006, 50 years would have elapsed since our graduation from St. Xavier’s, Patna. During these years, we have each gone our different ways and many have lost touch with each other. At the end of our careers it would be nice, I think, to re-establish contact.  As a first step I have decided to compile a directory of the Class of ’56 and have used the Xavier Directory of 1998 as a starting point.  As you can see it is far from complete. I am writing in the hope that this letter will reach you and that you will help me in the completion of this task. Please let me know if any names have been missed out and also if some should not be in this list. Please also update addresses, phone numbers and, particularly e-mail contacts that you may be aware of. You can contact me either by post or by e-mail.

I will also like to propose that each of us plan for a golden anniversary dinner along with our spouses some time in December 2006. The venue could be Delhi. If you like the idea, please start planning for it straight away.

For this get-together I would also like to compile the memoirs of the Class of ’56. The last 50 years have been an eventful period in our national history, as also of the World, and it would be interesting to record how each of us views these developments in the light of his own life and career path.  I offer to edit this document and request all of you to start working on your contributions immediately so that we can get it ready for the proposed re-union in December 2006.

These are just proposals and their success depends upon your interest and enthusiasm. I look forward to reviving old contacts. Some of you I haven’t been in touch since that dinner in 1956.

With best wishes

Yours sincerely

Vijaya Shankar Varma

Batch of ’56
